Paragon is Epic Games’ fresh take on the MOBA genre. Currently in Early Access with an open beta coming this summer, Paragon has already released three new characters. The most recent being Grim.exe, a robot that wields a huge gatling gun. Grim.exe is an interesting hero and can be built in a mix of ways. Here are a few general tips for playing as the new character.
During my time playing as Grim recently, I have noticed that his abilities significantly drain his mana. Of course you want to make sure whoever you play with has plenty of mana to sustain themselves during lane pushes, team fights etc., but with Grim you really need to equip cards that have mana increases built in. It will help. I often found myself using all of my mana potions early on and I was pretty useless at that point. His Deflector Shield ability blocks the next incoming ability and if you block the ability successfully you can generate more mana. That is a good way to get more mana in times of need.
I tried to solo multiple times with Grim, and it was a difficult endeavor. The thing about Grim is that his abilities are average at best. The times I tried to go 2v1 in a lane I was always pushed back and could never gain any ground. His basic attack early on is not too effective and if you do not stack mana early you will lose 1v1 fights against enemy heroes. A good strategy is to team up with another hero, preferably a fighter. Which brings me to my final point.
Crucial in Team Fights
Grim may be a bit weak on his own but in team fights his abilities can shine. First off his ultimate, G.T.F.O., is a powerful shot that can only damage enemy heroes, going through both minions and the environment, which also locks on. His Suppressor Mode ability lets the user toggle his basic attack to use more mana but to also slow enemies on hit. This can be very important in team fights. You can stop enemy heroes from fleeing and also deal damage. His Displacement Blast does some good damage and also knocks back enemy units away from the center of the blast. If your teammate is getting ganked, it can be a good way to save them.
Of course the list could go on and on but these are a few things that really stuck out to me when playing as Grim. He is a good support player in team fights and can really do damage in late game situations. I have enjoyed the new heroes that Epic Games has put out so far. Stay tuned for more on the world of Paragon.
