A MOBA can have a steep learning curve. Games like League of Legends, Dota 2, and Smite can be difficult to learn and even harder to master. The same holds true with Epic Games’ new MOBA, Paragon. But do not falter because we here at The Game Bolt are here to give you some pointers to get you going in the right direction in Paragon.
Pick A Few Heroes, Get Good
In Paragon there are plenty of heroes to choose from and I definitely recommend playing all of them at least once to understand how they work and how to play against them. But what you really need to focus on is spending time on a few heroes and mastering them, that way you have a diverse set of heroes to choose from and can hold your own with each. Using multiple heroes means you are not just stuck to just one hero and cannot branch out. If you can only play one hero, your teammates will not be too happy. Pick a couple of heroes that you enjoy playing with, and stick with them.
The Fight Starts, Get Potions
One thing I always do before every fight is spend three card points on a mana potion and a health potion. This way, early on in the game, you can stay in team fights, stay in lane longer and avoid backing out of a lane too early. You do not want to be abandoning your team in a fight two minutes in, so load up on potions.
Build Your Own Deck
Epic Games does supply you with a starter deck or two for each character, and recently they have beefed them up to include some stronger cards. However, once you start to grasp the game and how you want to play a specific character, you will need to create your own deck with your own ideas of strategy in mind. It will take a few tries to get the deck you like in stone. Some of the decks you make may fail, but do not get discouraged, keep tweaking it until it is just the way you like it. No idea how the card system works? I’ll go over the basics in this video below:
It’s A MOBA, Devote Some Time
It will take several games to get used to the mechanics. It is not a shooter, it is a MOBA so treat it like one. A typical match will last thirty minutes to an hour, so make sure you have a good chunk of time to play because no one likes an AFK–er. (Away From Keyboard). You will need to play a few games to learn when to go into fights, when to push lanes, and how to effectively become an asset as a teammate. Once you get the point where you understand what is going on and how to play the game, it becomes really fun.
There Will Be Toxic Players
Typically in a MOBA community there will be plenty of players that will always target you for making a mistake or messing up. Do not let this get to you and cause you stop playing the game. For every toxic player, there is a good one.
Reach Out For Help
The community for Paragon is an ever growing one, even in early access. There are tons of resources you have at your disposal to use to get better. The Epic Games team and the community are always answering questions, posting video guides and tips. I highly recommend the Paragon Forums for any help or if you would like feel free to message me on Twitter and we can chat!
All in all the game of Paragon is always changing. The good people over at Epic Games are constantly making improvements and are actively listening and getting feedback from the community. You will experience some great games and some soul crushing ones, but all I can say is stick with it. See you on the battlefield.
