While Square Enix won’t have a press conference, they do have some significant games both coming down the pipeline and in development. Final Fantasy XV is coming this September, which means the long awaited title will have one last E3 with us. But what about Kingdom Hearts III? Tokyo RPG Factory’s future projects? Deus Ex: Mankind Divided?
Dragon Quest XI Gets a Trailer – Liam
With the impending release of Final Fantasy XV, many may have forgotten about the Dragon Quest series. Long devoid of any proper, single player additions to the famed JRPG series, Dragon Quest XI was finally announced sometime last year as a PS4 and Nintendo 3DS title. The game is scheduled to come out this year in Japan, in celebration of the series’s 30th anniversary. I’d be plum shocked if the game came out anytime in 2016, despite the series creator saying the game’s intro section is playable and the story is complete. We’ll probably see a trailer at E3, as all eyes will be on Square Enix in anticipation for FFXV, but a release date for the game is highly unlikely.
Square Announce a Vita Port of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – Tyla
With the Final Fantasy’s popularity seemingly on the rise again, wouldn’t it be fitting to see Square Enix take re-release Crisis Core on the Vita with trophy support? With JRPGs being such sellers on the system, releasing a Vita version of Crisis Core would be a slam dunk for the company. This could be used to drum up even more hype for the Final Fantasy VII Remake, the same way that Persona 4 Golden has helped to build hype for Persona 5, by bringing on newcomers and also bringing back veterans and giving them something to do in the form of trophies and additional content.
A New Secret of Mana Game is Announced – Toby
It has been a long while since we last got a new entry in the Mana series, and I think it’s about time we got a new one. Phone ports and quasi-sequels aren’t good enough for a series as rich as this one, and a new three-player co-op console Mana game would go down very well. I’m not sure how likely this prediction is to come true, but I would love it, and I’m sure there are many others out there who would really appreciate a new Secret of Mana game. As long as it’s still top-down and uses sprites.
Dragon Quest VII & VIII Remakes Get Release Dates – Brett
At some point this year we’ll be getting the 3DS remakes of Dragon Quest VII and VIII. I’d love to see a release date announced for one of them, more likely VII since Square apparently aims to release that first. Regardless, it’s exciting to see these games on a handheld with updated visuals and the like. VII is notorious for being a lengthy JRPG upwards of 100 hours. Hopefully these remakes are more accessible and less time consuming for a casual player.
Will Square Enix unleash the horde of JRPGs they have hidden under their curtain? What do you think? Are you excited for any of these titles? Give us a shout in the comments below!
