Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Has Been Delayed

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been delayed yet again, with the game’s release now listed as 23rd August 2016 instead of 23rd February 2016.

This news comes as a bit of a shock as the game’s development seems to have been going smoothly behind the scenes, heading towards a release early next year.

A statement was released on the game’s official site by David Anfossi, Eidos-Montreal Head of Studio which reads:

“As you may have already seen by reading and watching the many previews for Deus Ex: Mankind, our aim is for it to be a worthy successor to Human Revolution, and to improve upon that game in every way possible. I know that expectations are extremely high, and we not only want to meet those expectations, but exceed them.”

He goes on to say that he and the team are “confident and proud of the game so far”, but that as they have played “through the game in full” they “can see that it will require more time in post-production for tuning, iterations, and refinement to meet our high standards. In order to achieve this, we need to move the release of the game to August 23, 2016”.

“We are sorry to disappoint you with this news, and also thank you for all of your support and comments. This game is a huge part of our lives, and we don’t want to compromise on its quality”.

Anfossi finally tells us to “please be patient with” them “a little longer”. While it’s nice that they’re “determined to deliver the best game” they “can”, it is hugely disappointing that we have to wait a further six months to play the game.

It’s fair enough to delay a game to ensure its quality is the best it can be, and it sure as hell has happened before, but that doesn’t make it any easier to take when a game you’ve been waiting for ages to play gets delayed. To delay a game six months in order to polish it further seems a little drastic also, as usually the polishing part of a game takes up a little time at the end of the game’s development.

Everyone will still get to play the game with this delay, just six months later than they would have liked, and that’s not so bad is it? If the game comes out and is great, then the delay is surely a good thing, other than maybe for Square-Enix. The original release date of February allowed the game to be the only “big” release at the start of next year, releasing it later on the year could have detrimental effects to the sales of the game, but only time will tell on this one. Plus, six months is plenty of time to replay the older games in the series (not like you needed an excuse to that, though).

A reminder: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be available to purchase for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on the 23rd of August 2016.
